# Bathroom Plumbing | Hummel Plumbing

Bathroom plumbing covers the toilets, faucets, sinks, showers, tubs, valves, and drains, and failures come in two kinds, the ones you can see and the ones inside the wall. A running toilet or dripping faucet wastes water every hour. A shower valve weeping inside a wall soaks framing quietly until a stain appears on the ceiling below, and by then the repair involves drywall and tile. The work runs from a toilet rebuild to a pressure balancing shower valve to full fixture replacement, including the shutoffs and supply lines underneath. Hard water here is rough on cartridges and seals, and plenty of bathrooms in South Orange County still run on original copper or galvanized pipe from the 1960s and 70s. Hummel Plumbing is family owned in San Juan Capistrano, in business since 2013, open 24 hours, residential and commercial. If you are remodeling, that is the moment to replace the valves and supply lines while the wall is open rather than paying to open finished tile later.

## FAQ
### Why does the shower go cold when someone flushes?
The valve behind the wall has no pressure compensation. A modern pressure balancing valve holds the temperature steady, and it is a standard upgrade during any shower work.

### How much does a running toilet actually waste?
A silent leak past the flapper can run hundreds of gallons a day and it shows up on the bill before you ever hear it. The parts are inexpensive, which is why it is worth fixing the week you notice it.

### Why does my toilet keep running?
Usually a worn flapper or fill valve, small parts that waste a surprising amount of water. If the toilet also rocks or seeps at the base, the wax seal may be finished, and fixing that early protects the floor underneath.

### Can you replace a shower valve without redoing the tile?
Often yes, depending on access behind the wall. We look first and give you the least invasive path.

### There is a stain on the ceiling under my bathroom. How do I tell whether it is the shower or the toilet?
Run the shower with the drain open and watch the ceiling, then plug the drain, put a couple inches of water in the pan and watch again with nothing running. Wet during the first test but not the second usually means the drain line, and wet during the second means the pan or the seal at the drain. If the stain keeps spreading with every fixture off and no water moving, the leak is a supply line or a valve inside the wall, and if it darkens right after a flush instead, suspect the wax seal under the toilet. Stop using that fixture until someone opens it up, because the framing has been soaking a lot longer than the ceiling has been showing it.
