# Kitchen Plumbing | Hummel Plumbing

Everything that brings water to and takes it away from the sink, the dishwasher, the ice maker and the disposal makes the kitchen the hardest working plumbing in the house. Under the sink there is a whole system, shutoff valves, supply lines, the disposal, the dishwasher connection and the trap, and any one of them failing quietly inside a closed cabinet does its damage before anyone notices. We install and repair all of it, clear grease clogged branch lines, connect dishwashers and ice makers, and when we replace a fixture we replace the aging angle stops and supply lines behind it as a matter of course, because those are the cheap parts that flood kitchens. The hard water here scales aerators, valves and appliance lines, and plenty of homes still run original 1960s and 70s pipe. Hummel Plumbing is family owned in San Juan Capistrano, serving homes and businesses across South Orange County since 2013, open 24 hours.

## FAQ
### Why is my disposal humming but not grinding?
Usually something is jammed in the impellers. Cut power before doing anything else. If clearing the jam does not fix it, the motor may be done, and disposals are generally replaced rather than rebuilt.

### What should never go down a kitchen drain?
Grease and oil above all. They pour in liquid and harden on the pipe wall. Most kitchen line blockages we clear are fundamentally grease.

### Can you connect a dishwasher or a new sink during a kitchen remodel?
Yes. Sink, faucet, disposal, dishwasher and ice maker lines are all standard remodel plumbing for us, and we coordinate the timing so the plumbing is not what holds up your counters.

### Why is my kitchen sink slow even after cleaning the trap?
The blockage usually sits farther down the branch line where years of grease collect. That section needs proper cabling or jetting, which is everyday work for us.

### What do I need to do to get ready before you come out?
Clear out the cabinet under the sink, the cleaners, the trash can, the pots, so nothing of yours is sitting in the work area. If you can, find your main shutoff and check that it actually turns, since valves in a lot of the older homes around here have seized in place and it is better to know that before we start. Point out any staining or soft spots on the cabinet floor when we arrive too, so we can tell an old leak from the one you called about.
