What should I do if I smell gas?

Leave the area, avoid flipping any switches, and call your gas utility from outside. Once the utility has made things safe, we handle the repair and get your appliances back online.

Do I need a permit for gas line work?

Yes. The permit puts an inspector on the work and the pressure test proves the line holds before gas is reintroduced. Neither is optional, and unpermitted gas work surfaces at the worst time, usually during a sale.

Can you run a gas line for a barbecue island or fire pit?

Yes. Outdoor kitchens, fire features, and patio heaters are regular work for us. Lines are run permitted and to code, then pressure tested before anything connects.

Can you run a line for a new range, dryer, or pool heater?

Yes. Appliance conversions and new gas appliance lines are routine. We size the line for the appliance so it gets the pressure it was built for.

Will the gas be off to the whole house while you work?

Yes, while the line is open. We shut the gas at the meter to cut in or make the repair, so the water heater, furnace, range, and dryer are all down until the line is closed back up and the pressure test passes. Once gas is restored we relight the pilots and confirm every appliance is running before we leave.

About Gas Line Installation & Repair

We run new gas piping, repair or replace bad piping, and cap a line safely when an appliance comes out, and gas work is one of the places where the gap between done right and done almost right actually matters. That covers a line to a new range or dryer, gas extended to a fire pit or outdoor kitchen, and corroded sections replaced on older properties. Every job is permitted, pressure tested, and inspected before gas is reintroduced, and lines are sized to the appliance so it gets the pressure it was built for. Near the coast, salt air accelerates corrosion on exposed lines, and aging flexible connectors are a genuine hazard most homeowners never think about, so we replace them when appliances move rather than reusing what was there. Hummel Plumbing is family owned in San Juan Capistrano, California license 1034213, handling residential and commercial gas work across South Orange County since 2013 and open 24 hours a day.

Jon was personable and knew exactly what to do to pull a new waterline for our refrigerator up from our crawl space. He was also very informative about differing water pressure throughout our house. It was obvious he took pride in his work. Communication from Sally was excellent. Stellar family team in the neighborhood. Nice to know we can trust them for our plumbing needs.

Jon always does an amazing job! We've used his services for years. He's on time, his prices are fair and his work is reliable. We needed a full house repipe after a pipe burst. I knew exactly who I would call for this big job and who I could trust-Hummel plumbing!

As a retired plumbing contractor, I'd like to think that I can tell a good plumber, hard worker, and honest man after watching him work. I'm getting a little long in the tooth (and sore in the back) to do much of my own plumbing anymore and I call Jon when I need plumbing help. I have also referred him to my neighbors, who report that they have been very happy with him.

We've used Jon with Hummel Plumbing a few times now here in San Clemente, and he's been great every single time. He previously installed our tankless water heater, and most recently fixed our outdoor shower and handled a few other items for us. Everything has always been done correctly the first time—no shortcuts. He's friendly, thorough, and clearly takes pride in doing things the right way. He was also able to come out quickly, which we really appreciated. It's honestly such a relief to have a plumber we trust. Highly recommend Jon and Hummel Plumbing!
