Why did my new faucet fail so quickly?

Usually the install reused old supply lines or the water pressure is too high. Both are cheap to address and both destroy fixtures repeatedly until someone does.

What happens if a fixture you installed fails later?

Call us. We stand behind the installation, and if the fixture itself is the problem we help you sort out the manufacturer warranty rather than leaving you to it.

Is it worth repairing an old faucet or better to replace it?

It depends on the fixture. Quality faucets are worth rebuilding, budget ones usually are not. We give you the honest math instead of defaulting to replacement.

Do you install fixtures I bought myself?

Yes. Bring your own faucet, toilet, or disposal and we will install it properly. If the model you chose has a known problem, we flag it before it goes in the wall.

About Plumbing Fixture Installation & Repair

Fixture work is the faucets, toilets, sinks, showerheads, tub and shower valves, and garbage disposals you use every day, and a fixture is only as good as the connections behind it. The same faucet can last fifteen years in one house and fail in two in another, and the difference is almost always the angle stops, supply lines, and drain connections underneath. We install new fixtures, rebuild the ones worth saving, replace seized shutoff valves and brittle supply lines, reset toilets on fresh wax seals, and correct drain slope that was wrong from the start. We also finish jobs other people started, where the fixture was fine and the hardware under it was not. Hard water chews through cartridges and aerators, and in the 1960s and 70s houses common here the original angle stops seize long before the fixture does. Hummel Plumbing is a family owned shop in San Juan Capistrano, open 24 hours a day, doing residential and commercial fixture work across South Orange County.

Key Benefits

Any fixture, from a single faucet to a whole house refresh

The failing parts behind the fixture replaced at the same time

Honest guidance on fixture quality and serviceable brands

Clean installation with no shortcuts on the connections

Frequently Asked Questions

Usually not. If the shutoff valves under the fixture still turn, we isolate that one sink or toilet and the rest of the house keeps running. In a lot of the older San Juan Capistrano homes those stops are seized or were never there, so we close the main long enough to put new valves in, and we tell you before we do it so you can fill a pitcher first. Clearing out the cabinet underneath before we arrive keeps the whole job moving.

Jon was personable and knew exactly what to do to pull a new waterline for our refrigerator up from our crawl space. He was also very informative about differing water pressure throughout our house. It was obvious he took pride in his work. Communication from Sally was excellent. Stellar family team in the neighborhood. Nice to know we can trust them for our plumbing needs.

Jon always does an amazing job! We've used his services for years. He's on time, his prices are fair and his work is reliable. We needed a full house repipe after a pipe burst. I knew exactly who I would call for this big job and who I could trust-Hummel plumbing!

As a retired plumbing contractor, I'd like to think that I can tell a good plumber, hard worker, and honest man after watching him work. I'm getting a little long in the tooth (and sore in the back) to do much of my own plumbing anymore and I call Jon when I need plumbing help. I have also referred him to my neighbors, who report that they have been very happy with him.

We've used Jon with Hummel Plumbing a few times now here in San Clemente, and he's been great every single time. He previously installed our tankless water heater, and most recently fixed our outdoor shower and handled a few other items for us. Everything has always been done correctly the first time—no shortcuts. He's friendly, thorough, and clearly takes pride in doing things the right way. He was also able to come out quickly, which we really appreciated. It's honestly such a relief to have a plumber we trust. Highly recommend Jon and Hummel Plumbing!
