How do I know if my main line is leaking?

A wet or unusually green patch of yard, falling pressure across the house, or a meter that turns with everything off. Any of those is worth a look before it gets worse.

Does homeowners insurance cover it?

Policies usually cover sudden damage but not the pipe repair itself, and gradual leaks often are not covered at all. Acting early protects you either way.

What causes a water main to fail?

Age, soil movement, corrosion, and root pressure. Plenty of South Orange County homes still run their original lines, which is why failures cluster in the older neighborhoods.

Will my yard survive a water line replacement?

We plan the route to disturb as little as possible and talk through the options with you before any digging starts.

Water Line Repair & Replacement

Professional water line repair & replacement across South Orange County.

About Water Line Repair & Replacement

The main water line is the one pipe that carries water from the meter at the street into your house, and it sits under pressure around the clock, so when it fails it usually fails quietly, a soggy patch of yard, a drop in pressure at every fixture, a bill that climbs for no reason. We pinpoint the break with pressure testing and listening equipment before anything gets dug, then repair the failed section or replace the full service line depending on the pipe's actual condition, working carefully around driveways, patios, and mature landscaping. Plenty of homes in San Juan Capistrano and across South Orange County went up in the 1960s and 70s and still run their original copper or galvanized line, and decades of hard water and soil movement finally finish them off. Hummel Plumbing is family owned in San Juan Capistrano, in business since 2013, California license 1034213, bonded and insured, open 24 hours a day.

Key Benefits

Precise leak location before any digging

Repair or full replacement based on the line's actual condition

Careful work around driveways and landscaping

Pressure and flow restored to the whole house

Frequently Asked Questions

If water is surfacing in the yard or pooling anywhere, close the valve at the meter and leave it closed until we arrive, since every hour the line stays pressurized pushes more water into the soil. If the leak is slow and you still need water in the house, open the valve when you need it and shut it again in between rather than leaving the line under pressure all day. Clearing a path to the meter box and moving cars, bins, and anything heavy off the ground between the meter and the house helps too, so the line can be located without shifting things first. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so call rather than guessing at it.

Jon was personable and knew exactly what to do to pull a new waterline for our refrigerator up from our crawl space. He was also very informative about differing water pressure throughout our house. It was obvious he took pride in his work. Communication from Sally was excellent. Stellar family team in the neighborhood. Nice to know we can trust them for our plumbing needs.

Jon always does an amazing job! We've used his services for years. He's on time, his prices are fair and his work is reliable. We needed a full house repipe after a pipe burst. I knew exactly who I would call for this big job and who I could trust-Hummel plumbing!

As a retired plumbing contractor, I'd like to think that I can tell a good plumber, hard worker, and honest man after watching him work. I'm getting a little long in the tooth (and sore in the back) to do much of my own plumbing anymore and I call Jon when I need plumbing help. I have also referred him to my neighbors, who report that they have been very happy with him.

We've used Jon with Hummel Plumbing a few times now here in San Clemente, and he's been great every single time. He previously installed our tankless water heater, and most recently fixed our outdoor shower and handled a few other items for us. Everything has always been done correctly the first time—no shortcuts. He's friendly, thorough, and clearly takes pride in doing things the right way. He was also able to come out quickly, which we really appreciated. It's honestly such a relief to have a plumber we trust. Highly recommend Jon and Hummel Plumbing!
